Autonomous surveillance robots: a decision-making framework for networked multiagent systems

This article proposes an architecture for an intelligent surveillance system, where the aim is to mitigate the burden on humans in conventional surveillance systems by incorporating intelligent interfaces, computer vision, and autonomous mobile robots. Central to the intelligent surveillance system is the application of research into planning and decision making in this novel context. In this article, we describe the robot surveillance decision problem and explain how the integration of components in our system supports fully automated decision making. Several concrete scenarios deployed in real surveillance environments exemplify both the flexibility of our system to experiment with different representations and algorithms and the portability of our system into a variety of problem contexts. Learning from Demonstration in the Wild

Learning from demonstration (LfD) is useful in settings where hand-coding behaviour or a reward function is impractical. It has succeeded in a wide range of problems but typically relies on manually generated demonstrations or specially deployed sensors and has not generally been able to leverage the copious demonstrations available in the wild: those that capture behaviours that were occurring anyway using sensors that were already deployed for another purpose, e.g., traffic camera footage capturing demonstrations of natural behaviour of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. We propose Video to Behaviour (ViBe), a new approach to learn models of behaviour from unlabelled raw video data of a traffic scene collected from a single, monocular, initially uncalibrated camera with ordinary resolution. Our approach calibrates the camera, detects relevant objects, tracks them through time, and uses the resulting trajectories to perform LfD, yielding models of naturalistic behaviour. Estudo anatomico do ligamento popliteo obliquo

OBJECTIVE:To study the anatomy of the oblique popliteal ligament, as regards its dimensions, expansion and anatomical relationships.METHODS:Eleven cadaver knees were dissected in order to study the anatomy and take mea-surements of anatomical structures and relationships of the oblique popliteal ligament. The dissection was for posterior access to the proper exposure of the oblique popliteal ligament, the semimembranosus muscle and its expansions. For measurement of dimensions, 40 × 12 needles were used for marking the specific points and a caliper. The angles were calculated using the software ImagePro Plus(r) .RESULTS:The distance from the origin of the oblique popliteal ligament to the tibial plateau was 7.4 mm, the thickness at its origin was 7.3 mm, length was 33.6 mm and the tibial plateau angle 34.8°. The length of the expansion of the proximal oblique popliteal ligament was 39.2 mm, thickness 7.8 mm and angle of the oblique popliteal ligament with its expansion 32.2°.CONCLUSION:The oblique popliteal ligament is thick, rises in the semimembranosus and protrudes proximally forming an acute angle with the joint interline, crossing the popliteal fossa. In some cases it has a proximal expansion.OBJETIVO:Estudar a anatomia do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo no que se refere às suas dimensões, expansões e relações anatômicas.MÉTODOS:Onze joelhos de cadáveres foram dissecados com o intuito de se estudar a anatomia e fazer medições das estruturas e das relações anatômicas do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo. A dissecção foi por acesso posterior até a exposição adequada do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo, do músculo semimembranoso e de suas expansões. Para aferição das medidas, foram usados agulhas 40x12 na marcação dos pontos específicos e um paquímetro. Os ângulos foram calculados com o auxílio do software ImagePro Plus(r).RESULTADOS:A distância da origem do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo ao platô tibial foi de 7,4 mm, a espessura na sua origem foi de 7,3 mm, o comprimento foi de 33,6 mm e o ângulo com o platô tibial foi de 34,8°. O comprimento da expansão proximal do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo foi de 39,2 mm, a espessura foi de 7,8 mm e o ângulo do ligamento poplíteo oblíquo com sua expansão foi de 32,2°.CONCLUSÃO:O ligamento poplíteo oblíquo é espesso, nasce no músculo semimembranoso, projeta-se proximalmente, forma um ângulo agudo com a interlinha articular e cruza a fossa poplítea. Discussions about the Relation between Limit and Continuity of a Function: investigating Concept Images

This paper presents the results of an investigation that was made with university students enrolled in the 3rd and 4 th semester of graduation in mathematics at two public universities in the state of Pará (Brazil). We aimed to investigate the concept image of these subjects about the relation between limit and continuity of a function, through an exploratory study done in two stages. The results were related to the researches of Tall and Vinner (1981), Vinner (1991) that composed our theoretical framework. Among the evoked concept images, we emphasize the idea that when a function is not defined in one point of the domain implies, necessarily, in the non-existence of the limit of that function in that point. That is, according to them, the limit’s existence depends on the continuity of the function.Este trabalho apresenta resultados de uma investigação realizada junto a estudantes universitários que cursavam o 3º e o 4º semestre de licenciatura em matemática de duas universidades públicas do estado do Pará (Brasil). Objetivamos investigar as imagens conceituais desses sujeitos acerca da relação entre limite e continuidade de uma função, por meio de um estudo exploratório realizado em duas etapas, cujos resultados foram relacionados às pesquisas de Tall e Vinner (1981), Vinner (1991) que, por sua vez, compuseram a base da fundamentação teórica de nosso estudo. Dentre as imagens conceituais evocadas pelos sujeitos investigados, ressaltamos aquelas voltadas para a ideia de que o fato de uma função não estar definida em determinado ponto do domínio implica, necessariamente, na não existência do limite da função naquele ponto. Ou seja, de acordo com os sujeitos, a existência do limite depende da continuidade da função

O trabalho do profissional liberal da saúde no contexto da pandemia COVID-19

As of March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic made an important impact on work on a global scale. In the absence of a vaccine, the most adopted measures were social distance and preference for remote work. The present study sought to understand the meanings that eight health professionals attributed to their practices in this context. Meetings held with a dentist, a physician, an occupational therapist, a nurse, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, a speech therapist, and a nutritionist, were registered through comprehensive narratives. Three categories of results were found: 1) the meaning of work, 2) the option for liberal practice, and 3) the implications of the pandemic. It was possible to see how the effects of the pandemic were peculiarly experienced by each of the participants, in some cases making them reconsider the meaning of work in their lives.A partir de marzo de 2020, la pandemia COVID-19 causó importantes impactos en el trabajo a escala global. A falta de una vacuna, las medidas más adoptadas fueron la distancia social y la preferencia por el trabajo a distancia. El presente estudio buscó comprender qué significados atribuían ocho profesionales de la salud a su trabajo en este contexto. Se realizaron encuentros en los que se dialogó con un dentista, un médico, una terapeuta ocupacional, una enfermera, un psicólogo, una fisioterapeuta, una logopeda y una nutricionista, registrados a través de relatos exhaustivos Se encontraron tres categorías de resultados: 1) el significado del trabajo, 2) la opción por la práctica liberal y 3) las implicaciones de la pandemia. Se pudo comprobar cómo los efectos de la pandemia estaban siendo vividos de forma peculiar por cada uno de los participantes y les hacía replantearse, en algunos casos, el significado del trabajo en sus vidas.A partir de março de 2020 a pandemia da COVID-19 gerou importantes impactos sobre o trabalho em escala mundial. Diante da inexistência de uma vacina, as medidas mais adotadas foram o distanciamento social e preferência pelo trabalho remoto. O presente estudo buscou compreender quais significados que oito profissionais liberais da área da saúde estavam atribuindo aos seus ofícios em meio a esse contexto. Foram realizados encontros dialógicos com um odontólogo, um médico, uma terapeuta ocupacional, uma enfermeira, um psicólogo, uma fisioterapeuta, uma fonoaudióloga e uma nutricionista registrados por meio de narrativas compreensivas. Três categorias de resultados foram encontradas: 1) o significado do trabalho, 2) a opção pela atuação liberal e 3) as implicações da pandemia. Foi possível constatar como os efeitos da pandemia foram sendo vividos de maneiras peculiares por cada um dos participantes e fazendo-os repensar, em alguns casos, o significado do trabalho em suas vidas
